6 weeks, fall fun & a wedding!

So much has happened since I last posted! I have been working so many hours and there never seems to be time to properly update! Maddie is doing great! She is growing like a weed and sleeping a bit better. Actually, she sleeps great, my problem is that once she wakes up, she is ready to party and has no interest in going back to sleep. Take last night, Madison started her evening bottle at 6:45 and ate one and off until about 8:30 (she has fussy stages at night). She fell asleep at 8:30 pm and did not wake up until 2:30 am. I felt pretty good at 2:30 am since I went to bed about 9:30 pm. However, Madison had no interest in eating quickly and going back to sleep. It took several bottles, one projectile spit up, new clothes for us both, and almost 2 hours to get her back to sleep at 4:15 am. This is typical for us. Shane is up every morning at 7 am regardless, so I am tired!
OK, it is catch up time!
Madison has been busy hanging out and fitting into Shane's busy lifestyle! Here she is relaxing at home and looking cute in a dress from Aunt Kristine, hanging out with her new buddy Thunder, and relaxing in her swing! Shane has been interested in reading himself lately and has many books memorized. We are working on letter sounds now and he knows several sounds that letters make like ssssssssss for the letter S.

Bath time is interesting now as there are 2 to bathe! Maddie bathes in the baby tub, but we try and bathe them at the same time. Here are some drying off pictures!

Fall brings a dreaded task to the Greenfield household - shoe shopping! I love Shane with all my heart, but shoe shopping with him is downright humiliating! When he got his flu shot he was 100% better than he was in the shoe store. If you could have seen the look on the shoe saleswoman's face when Shane started kicking and screaming as she attempted to measure his foot, you would have either cringed or laughed. I chose to laugh. The other people in the shoe store looked at me like I had a monster for a son. It was awful! He even cried when his friends Alex and Ryan got their feet measured and tried on their shoes. It was not fun. The first shoe store outing netted no shoes in Shane's size... Great! We then had to attempt it again the next week at another Stride Rite! I have wonderful friends who joined me in my second Stride Rite outing in as many weeks. Thankfully, the second trip was successful (though Shane's behavior was no better). After shoe shopping we had lunch - I could have used a stiff drink, but settled for some water. Shane and Alex had a great time hanging out in the window of the California Pizza Kitchen. Ryan had the good sense not to join them! I probably should not have let him do that, but he looked so cute and I was worn out from the shoe adventure!

We also headed out to take Madison's 1 month pictures. They came out cute! Here are some of my favorites!

Rosh Hashanah was very low key this year since we had a little thing like a wedding coming up fast! It was just us with Jorie and Jason at my parents. We also celebrated my Dad's birthday at the same time. Here are some of the best pictures from the night.I love the one of Jorie and Shane smooching!

Besides Maddie's formal one month pictures - we started doing the monthly pictures at home like we did with Shane. We are taking hers in a girls 12 month Notre Dame jersey so we can watch her grow into it. Shane had a Notre Dame onesie in 12 months, but we could not find one for Madison - that was for girls, so she has a jersey with a pink onesie under it. Here are her pictures.

And here is Shane's one month picture - it is crazy how much Shane and Maddie look alike!

In between all of the wedding craziness, Shane has still had play dates and attended class. Here he is with his buddy Ryan!

September 29th is our Great Niece Julia's birthday - she is exactly 11 months older than Madison! We celebrated her 1st birthday the first weekend in October. Here are some pictures from the day! Julia looked beautiful and Madison's dress matched hers! So cute! Thanks to Dan's mom for the pictures since we forgot our camera.

Our wonderful friend John came over to meet Madison last week. His partner Garret is traveling in Thailand right now. It was so nice to see John and hang out! Here he his with Maddie and Shane. Also, there is a picture of Maddie in her outfit for the day. Besides being awfully cute, the outfit is one that we had for Madeleine. It is so special to see it being worn by her sister!

The week of Jorie and Jason's wedding was super busy and very fun! Jason's brothers (his twin Jared and his older brother Kyle) as well as his awesome mom, Beverly came into town late Tuesday night. Beverly stayed with my parents so my dad and her came out for a visit on Wednesday! I love Beverly and was thrilled to see her and I could not wait for her to meet Madison! My dad and Beverly actually hung out with Shane and Maddie so I could get some wedding errands run. It was great to know the kiddos were in such great hands! Here are a few pictures.

Thursday was the rehearsal and Shane was hysterical - he was NOT walking down that aisle! I was so nervous... I had the camera, but all of the Shane drama meant I did not take any pictures during the actual rehearsal. I think Beverly and my parents did, so hopefully I will eventually get some. After the rehearsal, we had a nice dinner at Leona's. It was really small and nice - just my parents, Beverly, Jason's brothers, Dan, Maddie, Shane, me, my Aunt Joan, Cy, Andrea, Brad and Jorie's friend Rachel who officiated the wedding and her friend Stolie who performed during the ceremony. Here are a few pictures from the dinner. Jason's brother Kyle drew the short straw and sat next to a very hyper Shane during dinner! :-) Thankfully Dan and Jorie ran around and danced with Shane so he could burn off some of his energy! It was also the first time Andrea got a chance to meet Madison.

Oh, guess what happened after the rehearsal? Maddie slept through the night!!!!! It was because she was pretty fussy during the rehearsal and dinner and was eating every 2 hours versus every 4. Then she ate again when we got home around 10 and she slept until almost 6 am. I of course woke up every few hours to make sure she was breathing! It happened again after the pre-wedding dinner, but has not happened since. I guess Madison likes to party! Too bad her mommy and daddy do not!
Saturday night was the pre-wedding dinner for the out of town guests. It was at Gino's East downtown and it did not start until 8 pm. Though I tried with all of my might to get Shane to nap on Saturday afternoon, he would not. Shane is normally asleep for the night by 7:30 or 8 at the latest so you can imagine what happened when we got him in the car at 7. Yep, he was asleep in seconds and not in a light sleep, but a deep one. When we arrived at Gino's East he was not happy about being woken up and he never really woke up. He spent the night begging me to leave - he kept saying it was nighttime and that he wanted to go to "mommy's house". As a result of having two crabby little ones, no pictures were taken that night by me. Again, hopefully someone has a few. I was especially bummed that I did not take pictures since my cousin Phil was in from Utah and he met/held Maddie for the first time that night.
The wedding on Sunday was a super busy day. Jorie wanted us downtown early and the four of us made it to her room by about 10 am. I got my make up done right away and the girls were already working on Jorie's hair. Shane got to run around the room for a while before he needed to get dressed. We all got ready early so we could take some family pictures with Madison before she headed to John and Geri's for the night. Yes, I said night - she slept over! Shane did not sleep at anyone's house until after Maddie was born and Colleen took him overnight and Maddie had her first sleep over before she was 6 weeks old! There is really no one I trust more so off to Aunt Geri's Maddie went, but not until she had pictures taken! We all got dressed and ready before Jorie and Jason hit the city for pre-wedding pictures. That gave Dan enough time to drive Maddie to Orland Park and still be back at Salvage One for pictures before the ceremony. The plan was for Dan to take Shane with him for the ride in hopes that Shane would get a nap in. We were sure he would sleep since he had a late night the night before and we had to wake him on Sunday, but no - he didn't... Anyways, here are some getting ready pictures. I love the ones of my parents getting dressed, Shane in his Tux and of course all of the ones with Jorie who was glowing! These are the candids from the morning!

Once everyone was dressed, we hit the lobby for some family photos! Jason's mom met him down there and pinned on his boutonniere. I love this picture!

Here Dan and Shane are in their tuxes - I love my handsome men!

Here is my mom and sister! Unfortunately, my mom forgot she was wearing her sweater and had it on in all of these pictures! At least it was black!

And here are the rest of the family pictures, some of our little family of four, the three generations of women, some of just Maddie and Maddie and Shane!

Here is one of Shane hanging out at the wedding venue. If you were not there, Jorie got married at a place that is a store by day and a wedding venue by night. The place sells antiques and has become a trendy place for weddings. They now do 100 or so a year. This is the last picture of Shane in his tux jacket! We took it off after the pictures so he would be comfortable and then we left it upstairs so he did not have it for the ceremony - oops!.

And one of the service.

And Shane hanging with Dan's parents during cocktail hour.

Here are some pictures of the party! You will see that by the end of the night Shane was pooped! He never fell asleep, well he started to fall asleep at the table and Uncle Cy caught him and then we put his pjs on and he got a second wind! He was awake until we got in the car to go home at 12:45 am. As Dan's mom says - Shane is a true Greenfield - he parties with the big boys!

Jorie's wedding week was full of some of the best weather the Chicago area has had all year! We took advantage of the great weather on Monday to launch Shane's rocket. That is the difference between a dad and a mom. I know Shane loves rockets so I ordered him a Fisher Price one that we will give him for Hanukkah or Christmas - Dan went to the hobby shop and bought a model rocket with an engine and a parachute that flew 300 feet into the air. I was pretty nervous about the launch, but all went well and Shane loved it! Here are a few pictures.

We also took advantage of the nice weather and the fact that Kristine was on break from school, and headed to Johansen Farms in Bolingbrook for an afternoon of fun! Shane loved hanging out with Connor and he loved all of the animals at the petting zoo and the inflatables that he jumped and played in! Maddie was a champ and slept until we went out for lunch! Here are some pictures!

Here is a cute picture of Maddie from yesterday!

OK, Madison is fussing and I need to go - I am going to try and update again soon! We have Papa Carolyn's 75th birthday celebration this weekend and we are going to try and hit the pumpkin patch so many more pictures are coming! Shane and Madison want to wish Papa Irwin, Papa Carolyn, Uncle Cy, their cousin Tom, cousin Melissa, Cousin Susan, cousin Jennifer, Kristine and Aunt Geri a very happy birthday this month! We love you all!
